Powering up Excel
Much of Excel’s power is hidden. I’ll provide original and curated material under three headings:
Navigation and structure. The flexibility of Excel comes at a cost: it is almost unstructured by default and the initial ease of development and use exacerbates this. It can be almost impossible to find things, whether that’s navigating individual sheets or finding objects within a large sheet.
Using just headings and a table of contents, you can get navigation and structure in Word. It’s somewhat harder in Excel, but you can still get this to work. Stop losing things!
Expertise. There are real Excel gurus who write and present well. I’ve no appetite to duplicate or steal their content, but I’ve been asked to do a little curation by a few overwhelmed people.
My PXL addin. With 30 years of Excel experience I decided in 2018 it was time to write my own addin to tackle the day-to-day challenges in Excel. PXL got a corporate road test over 2022/23.
